One of the main motivators for innovation within the mobile industry is delivering access to multimedia content, whenever, wherever. One of the major players within this sector is YouTube, which has been allowing access to video from mobile phones, via the dedicated YouTube mobile website, since 2007.
Initially YouTube gave access to about 1,000 videos for mobile users, which considering the limitations set by hardware and phone operating systems at the time was pretty impressive. Since then the YouTube mobile site has given access to a wider number of videos to mobile users, with the mobile site now delivering more than 100 million video playbacks a day, and now the website has been enhanced helping to deliver a better all round experience.
The main benefit is an increase in speed, and it is possible to favourite, like and dislike videos straight from your device. You’ll be able to access playlists on your mobile, as well as manage your subscriptions. New updates to the main site will also be implemented faster on the new mobile site, too.
Many handsets come with a YouTube app on the device, but these developments are for the main mobile website, so to experience these improvements you should be accessing the site via the mobile browser on your device, and not through the onboard application. The current updates are best viewed either on the iPhone or on an Android device; if you are viewing this on your device then simply click here, otherwise type m.youtube.com into your phone’s browser and check out the updates. But before you do that, take a quick look at this video clip:
